The sanctuary is located in the municipality of Castel d'Aiano, a short distance from the border between the provinces of Bologna and Modena.
It was built between 1719 and 1734 in the place where, according to popular tradition, there was an image of the Madonna hanging from an old chestnut tree.
Removed by the owner of the farm and taken home, the image reappeared the next day on the tree. The original building, built in the first half of the 18th century and subsequently enlarged, was completely destroyed during the Second World War. The current sanctuary was built in 1960 to a design by the architect Adriano Marabini, in totally different forms from the original. The venerated image, formerly known as Our Lady of Fire or della Brasa, has undergone ups and downs over the centuries.
The postcard gives us the appearance of the sacred building before the destruction mentioned above.
